Constructed in 1909 and significantly extended in 1925, Selfridges flagship Oxford Street store was at the forefront of steel framed masonry construction in the early 20th Century.
Whilst a cathodic protection system was installed in the late 1990’s and extended in 2011, there are various fundamental questions regarding the design and installation of the system that require remedying.
Paye’s specialist team were appointed to:
- Complete a full assessment of the current condition of the external masonry fabric
- Implement short term remedial works
- Full audit of the performance of the cathodic protection system including wiring continuity, frame continuity, reference cell performance and efficiency of the system
- Develop a long-term repair and maintenance strategy for the steel frame building
