Dating back to 1875, this iconic Grade II listed building had been on Historic England’s Buildings at Risk Register for many years, completely neglected with rotten floors and roof structure close to collapse.
Paye were instructed to complete extensive dilapidation surveys to establish the extent of the problems and develop designs for the replication and restoration of the eroded external fabric.
The work involved the accurate replication of the shopfronts, window surrounds, dormers and grand cornice with some units in excess of 3m in length.
An added complexity was the requirement to design the shopfront pilasters supported and restrained using anti vibration mounts to prevent the noise and reverberation from the Underground situated directly below the building.
The impressive transformation of the iconic Lighthouse Building has been greatly received as an exemplar of façade restoration.
