The statue of Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert had not been seen for eight years, since a large piece of lead cornice fell off and the monument was declared unsafe.

The restoration of the memorial took four years to complete with Paye appointed as the specialised masonry contractor.

Our work involved the repair, realignment and rebuilding of the stone steps, paved areas and plinths.

Extensive research was required to match the original stone used and a combination of slate, sandstone, limestone, granite and marble was needed to restore the memorial back to its former glory.

Paye returned in 2018 to complete the next phase of conservation and repairs to the paving and hard landscaping.
