Paye’s specialist masons were instructed to undertake the complex masonry works at the Old War Office to transform it into The Raffles Hotel
Externally, Paye’s masons removed structural masonry to form temporary access routes into the central courtyards (and reinstated towards the end of the project).
Chimneys, cupolas and balustrades were removed and later reinstated, and the external facades sympathetically cleaned and repaired.
Various openings were created to allow the building to function as a hotel, creating new entrance ways with the monolithic appearance to seamlessly match the original construction.
Internally, we cleaned and conserved the original mosaic, marble and alabaster finishes.
