Paye Stonework and Restoration
London
The 6th Dragoon Guards have a memorial to those killed in the South African War opposite the north approach to Chelsea Bridge, where the London Branch of the Regimental Association holds a short service there every year.
Paye were appointed to sympathetically clean and repair the brick and stone surround and conserve the bronze statues to their original condition.
Bronze sculptures can easily develop a patina containing corrosive elements which can cause further decay.
As part of our works, we removed the layers of wax previously applied, re-patinated areas of shiny bronze to create a consistent appearance and then applied a protective surface coating of a mixture of lanolin, paraffin, beeswax and turpentine.
